Letter from the secretary-general

Greetings!

My name is Emma Wical, and I will be your Secretary-General for the upcoming 2024 Carolina’s Conference at the end of October. As one of the most active teams in the collegiate Model UN circuit, UNC Charlotte and I are absolutely thrilled to be holding our conference once again on our beautiful urban campus. My staff and I both hope that by the end of the weekend, you will not only grow in your skills in diplomacy, resolution writing, and cooperation, but also make some fun memories and new friends.

We are excited to bring to you the best Carolina’s Conference yet, and it’s all thanks to your feedback and participation! With an array of General Assembly-style committees and a crisis committee developed by a passionate staff, we are sure that this year’s conference will be one to remember. With our new and improved Delegate and Advisor Affairs position, we look forward to bringing you fun out-of-committee activities, and a space for Model UN advisors to sit and relax while their delegates are working hard inside the committee rooms.

And, for the first time, Carolina’s Conference will be partnering with a philanthropic partner, where funds from candy grams and merch sales will be used to support our local international community in need in the greater Charlotte area. We will also be allowing the choice to write position papers, instead of making them mandatory, so that students don’t feel obligated to write papers but can if they so choose. Conference chairs will still grade those that choose to write, especially if it is for class assignments or extracurricular requirements.

Who can attend?

  • Carolinas Conference is open to all interested high school and college delegates. We do not have a maximum or minimum size required for teams. We encourage you to attend even if you are single delegate!

Who runs Carolinas Conference?

  • Carolinas Conference is planned and run by experienced members and alumni of UNC Charlotte’s Model UN team.
